Quilt Ideas

Each Block is set to measure for an eleven (11" x 11") or twelve (12" x 12") inch block. Of course, if you obtain the block in electronic format, you can resize them however you wish. A twin size quilt pattern is included which can be adapted for a full size quilt by adding a border or repeating blocks.

Basically, the pattern is the eleven or twelve inch block set in rows of four inch wide sashings and setting squares. A seven inch border will make it twin-size. Repeated blocks or added blocks of contrasting colors on the sides and top or foot, will make the quilt large enough for a full-size bed.

-Seasonal Wall Hangings-

These blocks will also adapt to four seasonal wall hangings: December thru February for WINTER; March thru May for SPRING; June through August for SUMMER; September through November for AUTUMN.

-Fusible Webbing or Wax-coated Butcher Paper-

The applique instructions are set up for use with fusible webbing or wax-coated butcher paper. The actual patterns are a reverse of the finished colored images shown here to facilitate that method. Hand stitching with a blanket stitch or machine stitching are both options.

-Notes on Applique-

A few years ago, I made quilts like this for my grandchildren: Sunbonnet Sue for the girl (only one girl, so far), and Sunhat Sam for the boys. I worked on them (four of them), all year. I would cut my pieces, prepare them and baste them to the background block fabric. Then, I would choose the embroidery floss for the hand blanket-stitch and details and put all in a gallon zip-lock bag. I had one of those bags (I did 48 blocks that year, all by hand) along with me where ever I went so that if I had to spend time waiting, I could pick up the work and make a little progress. I "listened" to a lot of TV that year!!!
